Transport |

| The Volvo Extreme 40 has been created
for easy transport and assembly. The
specially designed hull size and 2 part
mast allows for the boat to fit entirely
within a 40 ft shipping container on its
own road trailer. Once unloaded the
trailer is suitable for towing behind a
large car or van. Together the boat and
trailer weigh approx 2000 kg. |

packed in the container to sailing in just
6 hours |
When on site the hulls simple slide
out on telescopic arms on the trailer to
7m wide ready for the beams to be bolted
on. The beam attachment is simple, just 8
bolts and it is ready for the mast to be
stepped. The standing of the mast is
achieved by using the boom and winching
the mast up. After trampoline has been
hooked on then the boat can be launched on
the trailer. There is no need for any
crane for standing the mast or launching
the boat. All you need is a ramp of 8m
wide and you are on your way. The rigging
time from container to sailing should take
around 5-6 hrs for a crew of 3.
The boat is fitted with 2 motors that
make maneuvering in harbors or marinas
easy with a top speed under power of
approx 10 kts. |

| The master shape has been produced by milling at one of the best aeronautic and race car facilities in France. The Moulds were then produced by Heol composites who are one of the leaders in high tech boat construction. |

| :Aircraft and Formula 1 production technology

| The boat will be produced in an Autoclave from Carbon Fiber and Nomex core. This technology is normally reserved for aircraft construction or F1 car racing with limited use in yacht mast construction. Basically the Autoclave is a pressurised oven that allows a much greater vacuum on the laminate and then baked at 120 deg c produces the ultimate high strength light weight structure. The Volvo Extreme 40 will be the largest boat ever built in Autoclave and will set the new standard in mid size multihull construction. |
